I received this question in my DM's this week and thought it was a valid question and one that I've have heard a lot. Anytime I mention Pinterest, the business owner typically asks me....well is it the right fit for my business? There's a lot to ask back and forth first before I say YES! But, I've seen many different kinds of businesses be successful on Pinterest from IT/Cybersecurity to Marketing Agencies to Nanny Agencies to Food Bloggers!
I'll be starting a new series on the most FAQ's when it comes to Pinterest with this product-based one being the 1st part. Let's dive right in, shall we?
Should Product-Based Businesses Be On Pinterest?
Most likely, YES! Product-based businesses do very well on Pinterest for several reasons:
The median age of a Pinterest user is 40 but the majority of active pinners are below 40.
Half of Pinterest users earn $50k or greater per year with 10% of Pinteresting households making greater than $125k per year
83% of weekly pinners have made a purchase based on the content they saw from brands on Pinterest.
72% of Pinners use Pin have made a purchase based on the content they saw from brands on Pinterest.
Six out of every ten millennials use Pinterest to discover new products.
50% of users have made a purchase after seeing a Promoted Pin.
47% of social media users saw Pinterest as the platform for discovering and shopping for products.
84% of Pinners use Pinterest to decide what to buy.
98% of Pinners report trying new things they find on Pinterest
77% of weekly Pinners have discovered a new brand or product on Pinterest
Cited from Omnicore Agency.
AND one of the BIGGEST reasons is that 367 million users use Pinterest Monthly and they could be looking for your product or business like yours.
One other thing to take into consideration is that females make up the majority of the pinner population so if your product targets females then I'd recommend you get on Pinterest or start utilizing it more! (Pinterest currently shows that 69% of the total audience on Pinterest is women!)
As you can see the average pinner on Pinterest is interested in purchasing off of Pinterest and even trying new products and new brands from Pinterest alone.
I've seen product-based businesses soar on Pinterest and Pinterest being more profitable to utilize than any other social platform. I am a mostly service-based business (which can be different for Pinterest and another part of this blog series I'll talk about) and I get 6x more traffic to my website then Facebook and Instagram.
So I hope this clears the air with if product-based businesses do well OR should be on Pinterest. It takes time to set-up your account, optimize it, creating the pins, and consistently pinning but once you do, you will be shocked by the amount of traffic coming to your site or shop for your products and sales increasing.
